STPP | Sodium Tripolyphosphate

The compound sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP), commonly referred to as sodium triphosphate, has the formula Na5P3O10. It is a sodium salt of a polyphosphate penta-anion, which is a molecule that resembles a chain and has three phosphate groups joined together.

Uses:

Detergent: By softening hard water and halting the production of insoluble compounds, STPP functions as a building agent in detergents, enhancing their cleaning capabilities. 

Food processing: In the food sector, STPP is used to improve the texture and look of meals, particularly seafood. It can be used to increase the juiciness and water retention of meat processing, as well as to assist make seafood smoother and firmer. 

Industrial application: STPP finds use in water treatment, paint manufacturing, and other industrial processes where its ability to bind with other chemicals or improve dispersion is needed.
